Tim Willams Trio

The “Tim Williams Trio” comprises:
Tim Williams  Violin
Wade Reeve   Guitar
Glyn Frewin     Bass
 
The Tim Williams Trio has energy. With a repertoire ranging from Grappelli/Reinhardt swing to regular forays into bebop and beyond, the music is played in a unique style with lots of instrumental brilliance. 
 
The group has been a frequent performer at jazz festivals and jazz events in New Zealand, and has made several appearances at the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival.
 
About Wade Reeve
Wade lives in Wellington, where he gigs regularly on guitar and bass. Recent groups include the 7-piece 'Thomas the Funk Engine', and country band 'Hobnail Boots'.   He was born in Kawakawa, and is a graduate of Massey conservatorium of music in Wellington.
 
About Glyn Frewin
Originally a guitarist in various blues and rock bands, at the tender age of 19 Glyn  switched to 4 strings on the bass. He has worked with numerous "cocktail" jazz bands, sometimes wearing velcro bowties. Glyn is currently working with the bands Side Effects, BBC, Lindsay Meech, an Irish band The Celtic Flyersand the Tim Williams Trio.
 
About Tim Williams
Tim has been a frequent performer with his group at jazz festivals and jazz events and concerts in New Zealand during the past two decades.
 
His style and repertoire extends from swing to bebop and beyond. His influences come from a wide variety of jazz and violin styles and performers.
 
Tim’s highlights include invitations to perform with his quartet in the prestigious concert series at the National Jazz Festival in Tauranga during Easter 2004, to perform as a guest artist in the opeing gala concert at the 2009 National Jazz Festival, and to play in band leader/arranger Bill Hoffmeister’s “Rhythmic Violinse” group at an earlier National Jazz Festival. When performing at one of the Whangarei Jazz Festivals Tim was invited by American trumpeter Mike Lewis to share the front line with him in his group. He has also performed as a front act to singer Malcolm McNeil and pianist Julian Lee at fundraising events in Hamilton. Tim has also recorded for Radio New Zealand, and he is a life member of the Bay of Islands Jazz and Blues Festival.
 
Tim released his first CD – “The Tim Williams Quartet – jazz violin from swing to bebop and beyond” during April 2004.
 
Tim holds his LTCL diploma in violin performance.
