Shingle Bob is an old-timey blues band performing songs which span more than a century, from 1890s gospel to the Delta Blues of the 1920s and on to songs by more recent musicians such as Janis Joplin, Jolie Holland and Norah Jones.
Claire Deighton is the band's singer, Bill Thomson plays acoustic finger-style guitar on his Dobro and Stella guitars. The rhythm section is Rhys Evans on bass and Phil Evans supplying percussion on brushes or washboard in the style favoured by the 1920's street musicians and jook-joint bands of the American South. The band is
inspired by the earliest blues performers, whose music pre-dated the electric Chicago-style blues which followed.
