Russell Ukelele Orchestra

One year ago we formed the Russell Ukulele Orchestra so that Russellites could learn to play this great instrument and to present us with opportunities to perform locally. In this short time, with an orchestra that has grown to 13 permanent players plus singers, we have given concerts including fund raisers, Picnic on the Green, junior activities day at Russell Sports Ground, Uke at The Duke at our The Duke of Marlborough Hotel , Christmas Carols at Pompallier, backing Russell School students at Puff & Pull concert, unveiling of Martha Mayer sculpture.
Thus far 27 locals have been or are being taught the ukulele. In the two years prior we donated 50 ukuleles to the school and trained over 60 students.
We have each purchased our own instruments, tuners, small amplifiers and recently a 500w PA system.
Everyone is motivated to learn and perform more interesting and complex music. Anyone found playing Tiptoe Though the Tulips is put to the torch!
We often incorporate piano, electric guitar and bass, mouth organ, violin and a cappella into our repertoire.
