Kerikeri High School Jazz Band

Over Easter weekend 2009, the Kerikeri High School Jazz Band travelled to Tauranga to compete at the Port of Tauranga Youth Band Competition. We were invited to attend a Kokomo Workshop at their 'Boatshed' studio in Katikati and watched live performances of some of the best current Jazz/Blues and Swing big bands from around the country. After the Big Band Competition, it was announced that Year 12 student, Martin Brooks, had won the Tom Bayliss Trophy for Most Outstanding Clarinettist. Year 12 student Bryn Van Vliet and Year 13 student and Head boy, Barney Olson were handpicked by the judges to audition in June for the NZ Youth Jazz Orchestra. If successful they will rehearse in Wellington during October.
