Joe Carbery Swingtet

 

The Joe Carbery Swingtet plays in a swing style, strongly influenced by the Count Basie band of the 1930s, the Johnny Hodges small groups and by Kansas City jazz.

The trio comprises Joe Carbery (Tenor Saxaphone, Clarinet, Vocals), Julian Russell (Piano) and Don Hales (Drums).

The repertoire reflects those  influences with tune written by Hodges, Duke Ellington, various members of the Basie band as well as original compositions in the appropriate idiom and some standard tunes.


The front-line of tenor saxophone and trombone packs a solid though mellow punch and the rhythm section of piano, guitar, string bass and drums provides a Kansas City heartbeat to the ensemble.

Joe Carberry is a life member of the festival.
