Jazz Inspired
Jazz Inspired is a Whangarei-based sextet consisting of 3 horns and rhythm section. We play a range of jazz styles ranging from Dixieland to Swing, latin-jazz standards, Bebop charts by Dexter Gordon and Gerry Mulligan, as well as original charts written especially for the group. Much of our music is arranged for 3 horns giving a very full "mini-big band" textured sound to the combo. Our members are: Derek Hopper (leader, trumpet, flugelhorn), Jim Thorne (alto sax, soprano sax, clarinet), Don Durrant (tenor sax, flute), Patrick Whelan (guitar), John Drake (bass) and Phil Cullen (drums).
