Since debuting at the Bay of Islands Jazz & Blues Festival 2006, Blue Monkey Racket have grown to become a Taranaki legend. Nic Boheimer (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Calvin Campbell (drums), Rick Lloyd (bass) Peter Hickey (sax) are now joined by the versatile guitar talents of Mark O’ Connor. Since the beginning the gigs flowed, including Pukekura Park Festival of Lights 2006, 7, 8, 9,10 (booked for 11), Parihaka Peace Festival, Americarnas, Urenui Rodeos, 46th National Jazz Festival.
At GTar 2010, the Bell Street Blues Night, when the BMR mixed it up with Thomas Oliver & Oli Brown was considered by many as the highlight of the event. This summer Nic guested with the Oli Brown Band at the Bowl of Brooklands Taranaki4Canterbury, a charity concert that raised nearly $50,000 for earthquake relief.
“Start It Up” was released in 2007. The boys are now working on the long awaited follow up. So if you like having fun and you like great music, this is the band not to be missed!
